Our Fire Department is located in South Branch, Michigan
Township Of Goodar. We serve in beautiful North East
Michigan. We are approximately 9 miles NW of Hale, 31
miles NW from Tawas City - E.Tawas, and 34 miles NE of
West Branch. The department is comprised of non-paid
volunteers from the surrounding area. We serve our community
with fire protection as well as medical (MFR) our goal is
to protect life and property for our citizens in a timely and
professional manner.

The Goodar Twp. Vol. F.D. handles approximately 145
calls per year , of the 145 calls approximately 130 are for
medical calls that require our medical first response unit. Our
emergency calls are dispatched to us by both Ogemaw County
and Iosco County Central Dispatch.  The coverage areas include-
Goodar Township,  sections of Plainfield Township that include
Jose lake, Chain lake., parts of Long lake, and parts of Mentor
Township. The MFR Unit expands even further reaching in to 4
different counties if needed which include Ogemaw, Iosco, Alcona,
and Oscoda Counties.  It is difficult to say what the exact
population is in our coverage area due to seasonal tourism,
however  serving 4 counties puts the population around 7,400
during peak seasons.

The Goodar Twp. Vol. F.D.  at any given time has between
15 and 20 Firefighters available to serve. The members range in
age from 20 years old to late 50s and are both male and female
firefighters. Their experience ranges from 1 year of service on
up to 25 plus years.  These are ordinary people doing
extraordinary things. These people don’t get paid being a
volunteer on this fire department yet they are willing to spend
countless hours in training and schooling to help their community.
